Hello all,

i am trying to sort out replacing the Alternator on a Range Rover 4.4 V8 Vogue. Before i get started i would appreciate some advice on how easy a job this is. Does anyone know? Land Rover want over £700 to replace it so any help would be welcome.

Thanks.

any competent independent garage would give you a much better price, and probably much better service

if we knew where you were peeps ere might be able to recommend one

or do it yerself, its not a hard nor complicated job.
not sure how much, if any , crap you'd have to remove to get to the alt on yer RR.

for the alt on its own its most likely 3 bolts and an electrickle plug

Thanks Guys, thats a real help. The guy at Turbo 4x4 has already come back in with a lower quote.

I have thought about doing it myself but where is the damn thing? Is it under the block on the right? (as you look at the block from the top)?

is yer dunt know what it looks like it might not be a good idea to DIY

how much did Mr Turbo quote btw ?

boolocks get in there and lurn? yer alt will have wires on the back, usually one small and either one or two thicker ones. get a book and just take yer time ? if yer get stuck someone here will put yer right

I have changed them before but just now on this bloody thing. He quoted alot less than anywhere else. £299 + VAT. for the part then his hourly labour charge.

I am going to have alook over the weekend.

ring craddocks for a price - then find a local garage to fit it, at least then you'll know you've not paid cost +100% or whatever garages add to parts
