This is the last time I'm going to ask about tyres( as long as I get a good response). I went down to John Craddocks last week to look at wheels and tyres and ended up confusing myself even more. After a 2" lift I'm going to fit 8 spoke steel wheels with new tyres, I will then use my 90 for work, greenlaning and possibly pay and play. Now do I go for the extreme side of mud terrain i.e Insa or Mickey thomson or because of the greenlaning, play it safe and go for BFGs or cooper STT. I do also want a good "look" about my defender so it will be either 285 75 16s or 33 12.50 15s. I'll even accept a sarcastic comments fromWiltshire Landyman, cheers guys

how about one from me?

if the work side of things comes first, then seriously, spend the money on the BFG's, Wrangler MT/R's, etc. The really aggressive chunkies will make it a real pain in the arse to drive normally.

If its green laning you are after, then massive tyres shouldn't be needed anyway.

Pay & play days, well, I have played on my MT/Rs, and had lots of fun

Oh, and 12.50's or 285's will be ace on grass, even wet grass. Thick mud, snow, etc, you will find them wanting, i rekon. To prove - my mate has a 2 inch lifted 90 with the latest brand new BFG MT's, on a 265.

My 90 is stock, with 235 MT/R's, and in terms or traction, i can get anywhere he can. It is just the ground clearance he beats me on.

When you say "use it for work" do you mean commuting to work or actually using it as a working vehicle?

with tyres that wide it would make a good working vehicle, for driving across astro turf and bowling greens

I meant driving to and from work . If I put on narrower tyres what about using spacers to push the wheels out?

could do, personally i have no experience of spacers but i know some people say they hammer wheel bearings/swivels. I don't know.

I fitted some 8 spokes with a deeper offset, which brings the tyres to just in line with the edge of the rubber eyebrows, have noticed no difference in wear rates.

Any wider, and I would have had to fit wheel arch extensions, which are stupid money for what they are.

how wide were you thinking? spacer wise, i mean.

I can't really see the point of spacers with narrow wheels. I'm sure someone will be along to tell me what purpose they serve!
