I know I hardly post. But I do spend ages trawling through all the other posts on here looking for the answer

I've got a video of the issue

The engine has a very poor idle. But other times it's excellent

Even to the point the car will stall

I've had all the injectors serviced / repaired / replaced as required

The secondary fuel pump has been replaced with a genuine pump

Please helphttps://vimeo.com/103163490

pretty sure some sort of error would have been logged with that sort of erratic idle your experiencing.

if your a range rover owner, i would highly recommend you get some of your own diagnostics equipment.

don't know how anyone could own a range rover without some kit. will pay for itself in just a couple of uses.

Hmmmm, as Hippo says, diagnostics is the first call....

Could be low fuel pressure, whiclt you have had the second pump replaced, don't sicount the lift pump in the tank or even the high pressure common rail pump on the engine...the drive chain to these has been know to go slack...but that will usually stop the engine dead...

Could also be the fuel pressure regulator fluctuating causing irratic fuel pressure.

Diagnostics first, the start from there!

Thanks very much guys

I've looked at diy diagnosis but they seem to be about £450

I don't mind paying the £50 per read

I have a toughbook pc. Is there some thing I can get to plug into the rs232 and maybe and interface?

Not that I am aware of...

All Comms loads on to a PC and uses a USB interface to the car...

I have it and so do a number of others....can't do programming of modules, but can recalibrate the suspension, set a few BCU parameters and obviously read and clear faults.

If your Toughbook has a USB slot, it could be worth a look, just make sure your system can run .net framework as some Panasonic Toughbooks are getting on in years!

Least you can reset any faults without having to go to the dealers ! You'll realise when your air suspension locks out with the car sitting unlevelled and you've got to drive it to the garage lol

The diagnostics came back with a fuel pressure fault but the pump was replaced yesterday and the dynamic reading was about 380. Also he said the mass air flow sensor was reading high and suggested replacing it. It was 500on idle and he said normal was about 300
