Please help a Newbie Find Local Green Lanes & Buddies

Good afternoon all,

I'm Marcel from Huddersfield, just about to buy my 1st Range Rover Classic for a little off road fun.

If there are any local lanes that people know about that they wouldn't mind sharing with me I would appreciate it very much.

And if anybody wouldn't mind a newbie tagging along on one of their runs out I would love to join in the fun.:bounce:

Obviously there's only so many lanes round here so I don't mind travelling arround a little.

Please get in touch if your anywhere near or have any tips/advise for a learner.

Hello and welcome. Few people if any will be Willing to publish locations of lanes on a public forum. Don't take it personally. To drive a byeway (boat, rupp or unclassified) you need to either join a club local to your area or buy an ordnance survey map(explorer 1:25000 orange cover) and identify the byeways on there. Then you need to check that the byeways you intend to drive have no traffic regulation orders on them (TRO's) with the council responsible for that area and that they are fully legal to drive.You can ask to see the definative map at the council offices for your area or ask to speak to the rights of way officer(or whoever) for the intended area. This can be time consuming but is absolutely essential to stay on the right side of the law both for yourself and for all of us who enjoy access to these roads. A club is good as you can go with other like minded people and pull each other out if you get stuck or keep checking the greenlaning forum on here and see if anything interests you there. Have you thought about going to any pay and play days as that might be a good start. Make sure you carry some recovery kit and that you have a recovery point front and rear. Hope this helps. Yes a pay & play is going to be my 1st trip I reckon.

I'll have to build tool kit up as I have nothing but please tell me the essentials folks.

I joined northern monkey which are based in your neck of the woods. £2.50 for the year and they usually have regular trips in Yorkshire and Derbyshire green lanes as well as p&p sites

Nice one Big Ginga - Yep I've read up a little on things since starting this post. I will defo go pay n play 1st trip & think I might prefer to follow a group outing 1st green laning trip so I can pick up tips from more experienced drivers if not for the good crack
