Plate behind fuel filter holder on bulkhead

This plate was mounted between the filter holder and the bulkhead. Is this an original part or has it been added since? What is its actual purpose? To prevent dissimilar metal corrosion?

Thanks for any info.

Don't really know, not one on my series three. But what I do have to do is slacken the fixings off to get a spanner on the pipe union. Maybe it is there to help an access problem ? Thinking again It has been a while since I messed around in that area but do have to slacken the fixings off for something......

Thanks for the one reply.

I think I will put it in place anyway as the tops of the rivnuts I put in are not flush with the bulkhead. This plate will fill the gap in nicely.
