The freelander is on an o2 plate but its in imaculate condition and she dsoes not want to scrap it

When you say expire, what do you mean? Is it just a HGF?

I'd have thought a HG could be done for £400-500.

Interested to know about a diesel swap myself.

In short I suspect YES, but exactly how much you'd have to change I don't know. Probably quite a lot.

You'd probably be better off trying to source a good used 1.8 petrol engine. You can get them for between £200-£500 with the cheaper ones being higher mileage unwarranted & the dearer ones being lower mileage, with some warranty and possibly even had its head gasket done.

Can your head gasket not be replaced on your own engine?

Diesel swaps can be tricky apparently due to completely different wiring isues etc. not to mention the drivetrain.

Get a cheap 1.8 engine if they don't want to scrap it, to put diesel in need to change the gearbox, IRD and drive shafts to try fit Td4 then subframe woud need to change to. As previous post reckons an engine can be sourced for as little as 500 that would be best option then sell and get some back.
