i put 2 lts of petrol into my td4 by mistake.then added another 24 lts of diesel, will car be ok.mot next week will this effect the emissions

Have you started the car? If so, it will now be in all the fuel pumps/line/injectors.
I think the general advice would be to drain it, to be on the safe side.

That said, I have read that 2% or so by mistake should not hurt, so long as you brim with diesel immediately to keep the ratio as low as possible.

First off, add 500ml of mineral 2 stroke oil, then another 10 litres of derv. The dilution will be sufficient to avoid bad running, and the oil will keep the HP pump happy. The petrol will likely clean out the injectors, so you may find it runs better, once the petrol has been burnt through. It might effect a diesel smoke test while the petrol is still being burnt, but it also might not.

My wife did similar a few years ago. She only realised after about £20 of petrol. While she was still at the garage, I got her to fill to brim with the more expensive diesel, and again when it was down to half tank. Engine has been fine ever since.

thanks for your replies, cars starts ok and been for 100klms drive, not perfect a just little lumpy .will fill to full at week end with good diesel

Make sure you add 500ml of mineral 2 stroke oil, as petrol removes the lubricating properties of diesel, causing rapid HP pump wear. The mineral oil replaces the lubricating properties, as that's what it's designed to do.

Agreed, just keep topping it up with diesel to dilute. Back in the day we would put a pit of Petrol in the Diesel to stop it freezing.
Mind you engines where not so highly strung then, but the TD 4 is a good engine, you should be fine.
Just check no excess smoke before your MoT.
