Perkins Engines

So I have 4 Series land rovers and three of them have non land rover engines in them....one is a peugeot (haven't tried it I get it friday) one is a sherpa, which I guess is fairly similar and the other is a perkins.....The perkins doesn't run and there is so much spaghetti in it I don't know where to start.

I know these old thumpers aren't the most popular engines, but I'd appreciate any of the following:

if you had just installed a perkins and you were going to try and get it running, what does it need connecting to it (electrically is most relevant to me)

What runs the cold start process, lets assume I am connecting things straight to the battery for the time being

How do I tell which perkins I have

I'm going to get rid of the perkins engined landy I think and keep the peugeot and the sherpa (sherpa is nearing MOT anyway and will need work, the genuine land rover is spares / project territory)

I need to get it running so I can move it, the PO had it running before I got it a couple of weeks ago but he tow started it and has no idea where the glowplugs connect etc...As above, I will connect everything temporarily and tidy it later.....its right in the way at the moment!

Ok, here are some pictures to see if its an obvious one...

you can see the plugs in the second from last pic - all connected together with a single wite that runs parallel to the ground - this needs to go direct to the battery, if it's done properly via the ignition switch - but all is needed is to wire it via a switch that you can switch on for 10 - 30 seconds before turning it over

only other thing it needs is fuel, if there's any terminals on the IP it might have a fuel cut off valve

OK, glowplugs are wired to the ignition and appear to work correctly. Fuel cutoff is stiff, but I have returned it to its non cut off position (!) manually primed fuel using the button on the top of the fuel filter....

Engine now turns over and fires but will not stay running.

I have a terminal on the IP which I imagine is the fuel cut off valve. I tried wiring that to the battery but it just sparks, how should I wire this?

Check the fuel lift pump and or filter's for crap and water as its sounds like its been standing for a while.

I'll give them a check, but the PO had it running a fortnight ago....after a 50 yard tow start.....

Its about to get fresh diesel...and once I can sort out this fuel shut off I reckon it will be fine!....

do you hear a click when 12v is applied to the shut off ?

you may find that the solenoid shaft needs freeing up and isnt fully open
