Performance exhausts and induction kits

Good afternoon all,

I've just bought a soft dash lse and wondered if I could pick the forums brains. Two independent landrover specialists have told me that the 4.2 engine gives far better performance witha sports exhaust and induction kit. Both garages then went on to state two completely different suppliers as having the best products.

So my question is

1 Are sports exhausts and induction kits any good or are they expensive for marginal if noticable gains?

2 If they are any good what are the best ones to buy on a cost versus quality basis?

3 Asuming that they do make a difference Has anybody got an exhaust/intake for sale?

Cheers

Clarence

hiya clarence my last rangerover was a 4.2 lse on lpg and the previous owner had fitted a stainless steel sports exhaust with 8 branch manifolds all wrapped with heat protective wrapping but the heat under the bonnet that they generated was way too much and tbh i found that the noise was a bit over powering also , so back to standard it went as far as the manifolds were concered anyway , i also refitted the cats , afterwards i found it to be a far more civilised car to drive with no power loss whatsoever , i also ended up having to repair the wiring that the damned sports manifolds buggered up through excessive heat :( , if it were me mate i would keep it standard as far as the sports manifolds are concerned , i hope this is some help .

I need to replace the center box/silencer on mine but am I correct in thinking that you can get a straight bit of pipe to replace the center box ?.

only if its diesel i was going to do the same myself but was told the v8 has to have back pressure and that comes from the centre box going to enquire at local performance centre tommorrow i want to get rid of my centre box but cant find much info about it unless spending loads a money on new system.
