Pathfinder

Review/preview just appeared on WhatCar website.

This car seems an attractive purchase but will be built in Spain as is the
Terrano.

Factories in japan have a great reliability record (all X-trails are made in
japan) but Spain's is not so good.

Reliability is very important to me (do not want to be stranded in middle of
nowhere) so it looks like the Pathfinder may be out of the question.

Shame.

They've been building Terranos in Spain for years - no particular
reliability issues have been mentioned in anything that I've read.

Spanish built Nissan have a good reputation AFAIK as is the case with UK
and Japanese models. None of the Nissan range has quite the gold plated
reputation of Toyota but they aren't far behind.

Yeah, it looks a very good car from what I've seen and read so far;
very capable and lots of kit for a decent price. The only downside
appears to be that the 2.5 diesel engine is a bit coarse at times (although
there is a 4.0 petrol coming in September apparently).

On the reliability issue I think, overall, I'd feel a bit more confident if
it
were built in Japan but as Rooney and Huw have said, the Terranos
seem solid enough.

I'll certainly go and check it out - it'll be interesting to see whether it
lives up to it's promise.

reliability is not just where it was built it involves the components used
and general methods of construction. ie: is the throttle poteniometer
waterproof, or is the wiring harness prone to rubbing in a certain place.
