Has anyone heard of, or used this stuff in their PAS system ? I have a post in the general section but not much response on the fluid. The spec looks very similar so I think it should be ok. As I've said in the other posts, I've been running mine on ATF with continual leaks, so think its attacking the seals. This stuff is proper pas fluid so should be ok. At about £9 compared to £18 a litre it s got to be worth a go.

The thing is @meego ,

If your seals have been attacked and are gone for whatever reason , then I do not think changing the fluid is going to help.

Cheers

Its ok @neilly....I've got another box to go in. I've had two reconned boxes that have eventually leaked, but as said, I've always ran them on ATF. I got a cracking second hand box which is dry as a bone but is filled with proper pas fluid. I am now convinced the ATF is not good for the seals.

I dunno about seals being attacked .. I've always run mine on ATF ... When I've had a leak it's always been either my ****wittery or a mechanical fault .. ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong Paul, but you're running a 300tdi. The spec for the PAS fluid in the Disco 1 recommends ATF, Dexron IID.
The recommended PAS fluid for the Disco 2 is "Cold Climate Fluid", STC50519. I don't know why the change, maybe the spec and supplier of the Disco 2 steering box was changed somewhere along the line.
However, as someone has said somewhere on the forum, "If the seals are already leaking, it matters not one jot what fluid you put in the PAS, it will still leak out again."

its not mechanical reasons they both use the same type pump and box uses same type seals

Maybe one of those things that people like to talk about on forums? I have quite a few things with power steering, Ninety, Disco, cars,Tractor, etc. I just buy big containers of Dexron, whatever the latest flavour is, or the cheapest. Not noticed it makes any difference at all.

Maybe an arrangement Land rover have with an oil supplier to boost their sales. Have you seen the price of ND-oil 8 aircon oil Land rover recommend for the P38?

You can just use standard dexron power steering fluid. Cold climate fluid, as recommended by land rover, operates down to -40c. Unless you are planning a road trip to siberia in the winter, then you will be fine.
