Let me know if I have forgotten something!

Changing the high pressure fuel pump on defender 1992 200tdi.

timing belt
idler
crank and cam seal
damper pulley is intact/ doesn't need replaced
timing case gasket
crank pulley bolt
coolant to refill
water pump gasket
fuel pump banjo copper washers
fuel pump gasket
lift pump & gasket

I must have missed at least one or two bits?

eh?

why do things like the crank and cam seals if theyre not leaking? people (if you read the posts here) seem to have issues with replacing those seals, so, if it aint broke, and you fix it, it may soon be broke.

no need to do the lift pump at the same time either. sure, they break all the time, but, if yours is running, then there's no real advantage in doing it at the same time as the IP. Indeed, id do them seperate anyhow, as changing too many things at once makes error checking more troublesome.

Crank pulley bolt? Are they ever specified to be replaced?

Crank pulley bolt does come as part of the kit, presumably because they get mangled on the way out.
You should do valve clearances when you change the cam belt, so have a set of valve stem caps and seals handy, and it's probably a good time to renew the rest of the belts.
Concur if it ain't broke don't fix it. Lift pump is unrelated, engine seals only if leaking, but not a bad time to check fan viscous coupling and water pump diaphragm.

I've never changed the crank bolt, no need to mangle it on removal. I would concur with not disturbing seals that are not leaking, by all means buy them in case they are when you take off the cover but no need to make extra work your yourself if not - and then you'll have spared too. Last time I did mine I had to take the timing case off the block to fix a water leak so I had to do them all anyway.

Last two times I have used a Bearmach timing belt kit, came with proper Dayco belt and ING tensioner. I bought extra gaskets and seals though as I wanted to be sure with those.

A timing tool kit is very useful, makes things simpler.
