Just got an advisory on my MOT about wear in lower swivel pin. I was planning to swap both the top and bottom pins while I'm doing the job. Most repair kits I can see seem to only have the upper swivel pin included. What other bits (shims, etc.) would I need to replace the lower pin too - or does someone sell a kit with the whole lot included ?

Anyone got any advice thanks ?

you dont even need to undo lower pin ,removing top pin will enable housing to come off, bottom brg can then be replaced along with top ,shimming is done under top pin

Paddocks and many other places sell of the bits you need, Usually any play in the pins can be taken out by adjusting the shims on the top pin.

Remember when you set up the pre load to do this with the seal OFF, only after you have set up the pre load you fit the seal.

What sort of condition is the ball in ? might be as well replacing the ball and the pins and then you wont have to worry about it for a long time

It might just be the seal weeping slightly. Turn the steering to full lock and check the ball any pitting will just wear a new seal out in no time.

If you are taking the ball off of the axle i recommend getting new bolts. Most of the time the bolts have been chewed and reused, you will need a 14mm 12 sided spanner to remove them, I do recommend a ratchet spanner. I had a nightmare the last time as some idiot never used the correct spanner and it OK me over a day to get all of the bolts out of one side using a hammer and chisel, water pump pliers and even a bar tacked to the bolts to loosen them.
