Park Heating: what to expect?

I've read through many forums but my question remained unanswered so far. I'm the proud owner of a (Dutch :)) Range Rover Vogue, model year '06.

I wanted to get the Park Heating working, so I bought the receiver and the T91. I also had it activated at the dealer (I think in UK you call this 'stealer'...) and the menu option appeared to preset the timer or have it just ventilate (above 16 degrees outside temp).

So far so good!

Now my question is, what can I expect from this? I don't have the change valve installed, so it preheats both engine and interior. But my interior isn't getting very warm, and when I turn on the engine, the meter remains pretty much on the left (blue) side, whereas I noticed some people claim that it is directly going to 1/4 on the temp meter.

My question: who can share his experience with me with regards to using the park heater on the diesel L322 '02-'09 model, related to temperatures that are achieved? My cooling fluid reaches around 30-40 degrees after the default 30 minutes burning time.

My heater seems to be working just fine, but I expected more from it. Were my expectations set too high?

Thanks so much!

I've never tried mine, as
A) It burns enough fuel with just the engine
B)i only use gadgets on my range rover if my life depends on it
C)i am always sweating when i am in my bastard waiting for the next thing to drop off so extra heating is not required
D)the oil leaking out of my cam covers onto the hot exhaust gives it enough excuse to randomly catch fire so i am not going to light a fire under the bonnet as that is just playing with .....well .. fire

There is probably more but that will get you started:)

It is true, when my son first got in mine he said "Great it's got a sunroof" whilst moving his hand towards the button and i managed to grab it in time, i said "if you open it it may not shut again or worse, the only time i am going to open that is if it's the only way to escape either fire or drowning"

Jesus, and I thought I was a bag of nerves!!!!

Why oh why do we do it to ourselves with our love of these things :rolleyes::rolleyes:

When I got my P38 the front passenger window switch had a bit of tape over it, the garage had told me the switch had pushed through. (I bought the car over the phone). Anyway, probably a week or two into ownership curisoty got the better of me and I took the tape of, there was a switch seemingly in perfect location. Thought id give her a whirl and much to my delight pressing the down button sent the window down... ace. Bit Chilly I'll shut the window, press the button. Ah.... thats what the tape was for, after a bit of head scratching and a few miles of being damn cold it occured to me that these old P38's had "lazy locking/windows"

Got out and held the lock button down and up the window went - thank god!

Anyway that prooved it was the switch and not the motor or regulator etc... quick change of switch pack and we were all good but for those few minutes I was panicking of what to do with that window!

i was going to quote the saying of Curiosity has killed my cat a few times which got me to thinking about how many other proverbs apply to range rover ownership, didnt want to take up a load of space so if you are interested, have a read through on the link below on the uk top 50.

If it aint broke- dont fix it springs to mind, which in range rover terms that means, even if it is broke, and you can get away with not fixing it, don't, as something far more important will break soon so save your money for that.....:).

Now now , you are just being selective with your choice of page. Not so long ago it was nearly all 322's. The 38 is older than the 322 so one would expect more to wear out, but when they do it won't cost an arm and a leg. ;):D

Don't get me wrong, I am often envious of the price of P38 spares, or as it was with my series 3 where you could rebuild the whole car for £10.50, compared to the L322 but as you say, as the L322 is becoming older, more affordable and more people are buying them, the price of spares will fall as demand increases.

We will then see fewer P38's i guess as they die off like the old Classic with only a few real enthusiasts keeping them going, loads of L322's, and then more sports and later L322s but I think we have a while until we see the L405s appearing.

Or have i just started a war...........

If demand for parts goes up, you can bet that prices will also go up. Parts prices are on the way down on P38's because demand is falling as more are scrapped.
