I'm looking to fit parabolic springs to my 2a in the near future, can anybody recomend any makes, grades ect also what diffrence will there be in ride. last question why are alot of advertisers recomending their +2" shocks as a kit, do Parabolic Springs increase ride height? why would you need +2" shocks?
thanks...cartman690...:)

Have fitted paddocks para springs plus pro comp +2" shocks to my 2A, about £300 the lot. Has raised landy by about 3-4", although my old springs were shot. With the bigger wheels and tyres i added have about extra 5-6". looks great and fantastic rie and articulation.

Thanks larry landy do you know if all parabolic springs lift the landy, and how has it affected (if at all the ride and handling), also did you have to extend your brake lines or any other bits, cheers for the reply cartman690...:)

If you read all the reviews, yes most paras lift the landy, some say 1-3". No i did not have to modify any break lines at all. As for the ride and handeling, a damm site better than the old leaf springs and with the longer shocks, better off road ability due to the extra articulation. I only use my landy as a toy but it was the best £300 i have spent.

you don’t have to spend lots of £££ this is all standard on my 1958 SII swb only "extra" i have is Monroe gas shocks and i still have my axle straps on too!!

True. but my standard springs were totally shot so i thought i might as well fit paras. Also had a bit of spare cash from my house sale. (landy looks good by the way dopey)

I've been driving around for a year on a set I got from paddocks. Took a couple of weeks for them to run in I rekon (could be my immagination) but what a difference it made. I can now drive without fear of losing my teeth if I hit a manhole cover. They truly have tamed the beast! Well worth it!

I cant take a pick head on the sun is too low and mucking the focus up, as for bigger picks i don’t know i’m not Tec like that sorry, have a looks at the fuel tank, I had it made for me by a m8 its steel, very nice tank it looks higher than it is because the side skirts have been taken off, couldn’t resist putting my P38 on (sorry) Oh and the "Bling" handles at the back, made of steel and polished

Had a complete set of Rocky mountains on my 1958 SII for 12 years now, much better articulation, better at speed and cornering, better off road, cant fault them yet.

Hi Cartman, I bought mine from Jones Springs, an excellent service as they machine them down to fit the 80 rears and retemper them.

The first answer is that mos folk are replacing stuffed standard springs with paras, but replacing with new standards will also give dramatic improvement.

The paras offer a great deal more flexibility, so give better axle articulation, again they do offer on average an inch or more extra ride height. But beware on the rear as this is where the problems can occur with both your shocks AND your propshaft as they can damage the standard shocks and if the axle flexes down too far cause the propshaft to come apart (especially on the 80") to this effect, I replaced the missing axle check starps to keep the axle in check. The fornt axles dont suffer as much as the springs are shorter ergo the the effects are not as extreme

I posted my experiences of upgrding mine in my thread here

http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f6/killajoules-series-80-upgrade-project-224357-5.html

They certainly radically improved the ride on my motor as the existing rears were virtually flat with little room between the spring and bump stops causing the 80 to crash over the slightest road imperfection, now she sails along in relative comfort.

The only other thing to point out is that the springs are half the thickness at the centres so the U bolts extend significantly through the bottom shock mount places. I cut mine down which of course melted the nylon in the lock nuts abit so I am constantly having to retighten the front U-bolts.

However as a regular trialler I can honestly say that the supple suspension dramatically improves the traction.

There were some dodgy early parabolic springs around that were notorious for failing but as I say my experience of Jones has been excellent and of course Rocky Mountain have an excellent reputation.

I have on the flipside heard from fellow trialers who have returned to standard springs as they were not happy with the paras being too soft. So depending on what you put the series through just replacing with standards may offer just as good iprovement in performance.
