Painting head light surrounds.

My td5 90 is in need of some new front light surrounds as they are getting faded.
But was just wondering has any one had any luck spraying them in black?

Just had a thought instead of buying new ones....mabey this could work?!!

If so could you shed some light on the matter...

£1 can of matt black or satin black from your nearest pound store,

take off, give them a good wash and dry.

spray. allow to dry, put back on car.

It does, but I got bored and found halfords bed liner psray in a can works quite nicely....and you get a bit of texture......I like a bit of texture.

I have heard of people flashing a blow torch flame over the surface (with it removed!) to try and get rid of the faded finish. Never tried it myself and a lot of potential for it to go wrong and melt a hole in it! Perhaps if anyone has tried it then they could comment about whether it is worthwhile trying?

I can say that using a hot air gun on some black plastics will make them look new again but I have no idea if that would work on the 90 surrounds although worth a try. Mum's hairdryer won't do it though.

Mine were body coloured. Painted them with the same paint I used on the rest of the car and they came up fine. So black paint should work.

I cleaned mine, painted with a clear plastic primer, then painted them gloss black to match the roof and wheelarches. Hopefully it will look ok once the rebuild is started.

Yea, a hot air gun would do it but probably won't give you that little nervous 'do you feel lucky punk' adrenaline boost that a blowtorch would
