hello,

yesterday i woke up at 9am and already had a plan set out. it was a nice enough day so i started dismantling the 110.

spare wheel and all chequerplate and grill came off.

all the bubbling got rubbed down/scratched off with 40 grit

then everything got a good going over with 400 grit and a scotchbrite pad in the tight places.

i then masked off some of the important bits and removed anything else i could.

panel wipe all over the thing. then nipped out to the paint shop.

bought myself 2 litres of synthetic satin in RAL 8019 grey brown
1 litre of chassis black, 2 spray cans of etch primer, and 2 mini gloss rollers and a roller tray

i etch primed all the bare metal, let it dry, then got to painting on the brown.

the synthetic was a lot thicker than ive previously used and went on very very thick. i definitely should have bought some thinners and thinned it at least 5:1 but nevermind its done now.

its covered well all in one coat and i used about 1.7 litres for what you can see.

i brushed inthe tight spots then rollered the rest and tryed to get an even look but the the rollers disintegrated as the paint started to dry up so it was tough to get a good flow.

anyway this is where im upto . next to do today is paint chequerplate black, clean grill up and paint black, paint roof gloss black, paint side rails and sills and all hinges and windscreen black. reassemble.

then the final step will be adding extended arches and some huge wheels.

oh and i gota paint the bumper too.

enjoy

well the first coat is definitely thick and applied ok i guess with a roller. but im gona thin my second coat down 50 50 and roll it on nice n fast, this should give me a uniform satin finish.

ive rollered before using alkyd enamels (rustoleum) but took several days doing layer after layer and flatting back, then a final polish, n that came out like a pro sprayjob, but as i went for satin to be honest i thought wat the hell, and slapped it on thinkin it would look ok first time.

at the moment its unacceptable, only because i have patches ive missed n stuff, n some areas with thicker paint than others givin a glossy finish.

im gona make it perfect tho, cant expect perfect finish all in one day.

just done some more work now, ill post pics later

lol the colour isnt gona be anyway near as dark as it looks when its finished, its havin gloss black to contrast with so itll look like this a bit

I was referring to the yellow, the colour Delboy and Rodney painted the chinese takeaway  but looking forward to the new look when its done, really like that brown. Classy.

ye the yellow had to go, i wuda probly kept it if it was a better yellow, like bumblebee from transformers. but it was just plain old ex blackpool airport yellow.

anyway i got more done today, its gona rain at 7 so i didnt wana chance doin the roof yet.

Looks like it'll look good when you've done

I had grand plans for respraying my 90 Stornaway grey but the costs are running away

Primer, base coat, lacquer , where to and somebody to paint it , it was rapidly heading to £500

It's a county with chequer on the bonnet, wings, sills and corners so I'm going to do it with aerosols because there isn't much left, the money I save I can spend on new shiny bits

There's a guy on eBay who does 2 pack aerosols so i'm getting a price to do it myself

Did you use the sponge, or mohair gloss roller..?
If it was the sponge, did you get any tiny dimples left behind..?

i used the sponge mini gloss rollers, i didnt get little dimples at first, but as time went on the roller started to weaken and the foam started to expand, leaving a more textured exterior to it.

but if youre talking about the little air bubbles that form with roller painting, no i didnt get any because the paint i used was extremely thick.

in the past ive used thinned paint and got the bubbles but i just rolled them out on a second pass.

sounds good, i wouldnt bother using 2 pack base colour tho, just shoot the base colour in normal automotive spray itll be cheaper. then clear it all with 2pack clear spray within the alotted timeframe.

did a lot more today, did 1st coat on the roof using waterbased chassis black and a gloss roller. did all the final coats on the hinges and chequerplate. got the chequerplate screwed on with huge self tappers cos my rivet gun broke.
painted the front bumper with etch primer and hammerite black. painted any yellow gaps in the doorjambs.
etch primed and painted grille and light surrounds in gloss black plastikote.

theres not much left to do now. need to do second coat on roof, do touch ups on all the black hinges etc. re fit the sill chequerplate once ive painted that.
then i think im either gona mask everything except the brown, scuff it and do a light thinned coat of brown again to give a uniform finish, or maybe just scuff it all up and spray the thinned brown in my hvlp gun for the final coat. not sure yet.

then to finish ill add some 33 inch cooper st on black modulars, and the terrafirma extended arches.

then i gota finish the interior. runnin out of money fast lol.

heres some pics of todays stuff.
