Well I thought I'd come and share pics of the tractor with you all, so you can see as I slowly plough all my money into it and then cry when it gets dirty!

Long story short, I sold my BMW M3 as I wanted something bigger and 4x4 for hauling animals, mainly dogs, and towing a trailer, so was looking at L200's, Rangers and Hilux's and then I saw a Disco 2 driving one day and thought "oh yeah, I like them". So that weekend I went and found one I really liked. Paid for it the same day. Went to pick it up and BOOM.... bottom end went. Lucky for me I didn't pay for it. So I went home and found another, though in Cheltenham, so bought it over the phone from a dealer, and went to fetch it the same day. Driving it home was like driving a knackered bus compared to the BMW, but I loved it! Such a tank! I love it.

It has had 1 previous owner for all of it's life, 100,400 miles, full Land Rover service history, and never ever been off road or.... anywhere! So couldn't be happier.

I'ts a 2003 TD5 XS, with half leather and quite a lot of the mod cons you seemed to be able to get! :cool:

Anyways, less words, more pictures! Here she is.

Center console is broken, so need a new console and switches;

Also, just to show you the HUGE animals I have to take around with me;

His name's Humphrey, he's a foster cat as I work with the RSPCA, so dogs are common, particularly massive ones who like to chew my cars! :boggle:

Another of Humphrey (aka Humpy) driving;

Cleaned it this morning for 2 hours, making sure everything is good! :red: Though it will get dirty.... i promise.

Took it to a Landy specialist and he basically told me it's in great nick, really honest but (obviously) needs some things;
Cam Cover replacing as it's leaking
Front and Rear Camshaft Seals leaking
FPR leaking (very very very minor)
Track Rod Ends
Bottom Arm
Rear chassis needs waxoyling
bushes on the front shocks
Steering box needs tightening
New center console and switches

So not a great deal.... and all relatively simple. So going to service and do all the filters this weekend coming. All genuine LR parts! :rolleye:

I've ordered some black modular wheels and 255/65r16 General Grabber AT's for it, they arrive tomorrow! :rolleyes:

Few other mods I'd like to do as well;
Front nudge bar (I love the North American spec genuine one or genuine LR ones but they're like rocking horse ****)
LIGHTS! ALL THE LIGHTS! Want 2 large spots and 4 above the cab and a rear work light.
Snorkel
G4 roof rack (Only if one accidentally turns up in my possession)

I'm already loving it, just needs some work to be perfect. Got big plans, want to take up some green laning and off-roading too, nothing too extreme!

Thanks chaps.
Alex :D

Very nice! I hope the Landy specialist genuinely knew that the rear chassis needs waxoyling...and it's not started to get a few holes where it shouldn't. Not raining on the parade as it were, but letting you know to keep on top of any possible rear chassis rot (because that's where they like to rot... I know ;) )

Trying to keep on top of maintenance and checks can be a pain, but the Disco will love you for it!

Hi Pagin and welcome to Landyzone.

Here's a couple of things you might like to check out when you have a minute, to help your new 'tractor' (I normally reserve the word tractor for Harley Davidson's!):

1. Check the red engine ECU plug for oil contamination - if found, clean with aerosol brake and clutch cleaner. This is usually an indication that the injector loom (about £30) under the cam cover has gone, so a good thing to change whilst changing the cover gasket.

2. Check the MAP sensor on the inlet manifold for a tar-like substance that stops it working. Cleans easily and thoroughly with aerosol Brake and clutch cleaner. If tarred-up It is usually an indication that the EGR valve has not yet been blocked off, or not cleaned after blocking said valve. De-EGR is probably one of the first mods worth doing to help the health of your engine.

3. De-cat the exhaust system. If you take a look at your VIN number in the middle is a section which will be TGM87 or 97. If it's 87 your vehicle was factory fitted with a catted exhaust downpipe, if it's 97 your vehicle never had a cat.
So assuming it's got a cat, they are of a basic nature and after a number of years operation start to partially block, reducing engine performance. This can be remedied easily by replacing it with a non cat downpipe for about £50 to £80. Makes a noticeable difference in engine pick-up and an easy job to do.

Ok that's enough for now, enjoy your new baby.
