Hi all, just lost a rear tyre ImageUploadedByTapatalk1415487674.595644.jpg with a nasty caw of tyre herpes!

Waiting for the Rac to swap on the spare. I've got pirellis all round at the moment which aren't too far of needing replacement.

The spare is a new Goodyear. Couple of questions:

1) how far can I drive with a new Goodyear on one and a warn Pirelli on the other (at a guess good for another 1-2k).

2) what would be the best suggestion for a set of budget tyres.

I don't want to skimp but I don't want to pay through the nose, as its only a weekend car, equally don't want to completely write off the handling

Thanks in advance!

Is there no danger to the diff or gearbox?

nope. if you think it through what would the danger to diff or gearbox be ?

I'm assuming that the tyre/wheel sizes are the same.

All that is different is the tread pattern. yes that may cause some miniscule differential in road friction, but no more than cornering, or road surface variations would create!

Actually, on some 4wd cars you do have to ensure that the tyres all have the same rolling radius otherwise you get a lot of transmission problems. I have a Subaru Legacy and you just can't mix and match - when I bought the car it had an assortment of tyres on it and suffered with bad transmission wind-up. As soon as I replaced the tyres with a matched set, it was as good as gold. Fortunately not a problem with the RR.

Thanks everyone! Swapping the part word Pirelli to the rear and new good years on the front. The third part worn Pirelli will be kept in the shed as a spare. Just need to get a can of tyre weld and a compressor for the boot just in case

it's a bast*rd of a job to clean the wheel and most tyre places won't repair a tyre that's been tyre welded because of the mess it causes.:D

:Dtbh you get used to the milkshake c**p but not used to the aa man giving you a instruction leaflet every single time:rolleyes: + 9-10 they are fe***d & my say is final no exceptions. yes I am strict & can spoil your day but atleast you will live to see another;)
