Hi Seems like a recurrent problem but I'm new to it!! anybody any experience with these key replacement/ key coding companies offering services online, especially intrigued about one sending you a device to record the key signal and a photo required to cut the key, anybody any experiences of these services. I see others offering a rebuild service, by Post, not too keen on this as the car came with only one key!!
All help greatly appreciated

Mine only had one. You have to check which number it is (1-4) and order the number it isn't off the main dealer. Takes a day or so to get delivered from Huff in Germany unless the guy is on holiday. Costs about £165.

MrSporty on here refurbs the fobs and knows as much as there is to know. You can clone the key BUT if you do that then each time you use the clone you will need the key resyncing as there is a rolling code that increments each time the key is successfully used.

Hi Guys, Thanks for the quick response, I'm surprised the dealerships are still interested. Last time I had any dealing with them, when my LSE was a current model, they were not interested in that, lots of money for not much service!!
The key I got with the car is a moth eaten old thing, I'm going to have a go at replacing the battery (no flashing LED and some messages on the dash) no idea what number it is, can this be found in the unit or in its coding when it is rebuilt?
MrSporty looks like a good option, how do I contact him?
I got the thing a couple of months ago ,as a project, left in shed till this week, low option 4ltr ( poverty spec, less to go wrong)no sun roof, manual seats etc with engine issues, that I'm happy dealing with that but want this key thing sorted first.

Tell me you've got velour..!

Tell me you've got velour..!
Hi, I don't mind the lack of toys, even a radio, but velour I draw the line, so posterior treated to leather, Quite happy with the manual seats though, wary of powered ones, after my old LSE tried to do a 'Christine' and crush me against the steering wheel, (can't happen ? it did!!) which is why its sulking in the weeds at the moment, been there a while and will remain there till it has learned its lesson) any I have a new toy.
Right off now to research mrsporty, hope I have better luck with this, than an enquiry I made recently for a replacement multitool , I typed in ' leatherman' and got some very strange results.

If you change battery in fob don’t hang around, either it’s first time easy or will cause you grief, think you only have so long to take old one out and put new one in. Before you go spending on keys make sure you have the EKA number for the vehicle.

That'll be @holidaychicken 's website.:eek::D:D

You can get the eka from the dealer while you're getting a new key i think?
You can easily find your key is number 1 or 2 if you have electric seats.. not so easy otherwise

Get the EKA and immobiliser turned off in the BECM and you can operate the car with just the key blade, the FOB will still work but is not necessary.

Number is written on the back. If that is worn off and you have memory seats tgen set 1 fully back and 1 fully foward and see what the key tell it to do (RTFM). If you don't have memory seats and no idea of number try ordering #4.

You can send a message to MrSporty using envelope icon at top right. He has the kit to read your code if the key is transmitting (so do avtew other members) and can clone or rebuild it.

Hi Guys thanks for the great advice.
I had a good look at the key fob no number on it, I have an ultraviolet light somewhere I will dig that out, sometimes that shows up hidden details.
Manual seats, so no help there , I did get the EKA number with the car. Interesting to learn that and the immobiliser can be turned off, How can that be done?
One positive ,in preparation for some replacement batteries I unscrewed the battery cover on the fob, I was expecting trouble but it was loose, so came off ok, I will order a replacement with the batteries.
I will contact Mr Sporty
Looking forward to getting this sorted out, I have engine work to do, more my thing.

To turn off EKA and the immobiliser you need Faultmate or Nanocom diagnostics to access the BECM, there may be someone near you who would do it for tea and biscuits.

I know these posts are quite old and even in 2020 people should have known better. Much of the staements given here are wrong. people reading these posts should understand this.
