P38 - Remote Key Fob not working

Hi Folks,

Just tried to get into my P38 and found remote fob not working. Key works OK. Had to use Acces Code procedure to enable engine.

Tried spare fob - same problem.

LED's on both fobs are working.

Tried to synchronise fobs - still no joy.

Disconnected car battery and left it for while. When re-connected - still nothing.

HELP!

I've had this before and its a strange one, sometimes they just loose the code.

enter the eka code to disarm then lock and unlock the car using the door lock with both keys, this should relearn the code, if not then it could be an RF reciever problem.

the RF reciever is fitted behind the trim in the boot below the rear window on the drivers side, hold the fob to the window and try it.

Ok, now it's getting weird!

Just tried to synchronise my key fobs after getting some advice from my local Land Rover garage. (hold down lock button, insert key, hold key in lock postition for 5 seconds, remove key, release lock button).

Now the "IGNITION KEY IN" warning message stays on all the time.

Is this related, or is it just that she knows I'm selling her and she's being a bitch?

Found the problem!

The microswitch which detects that the key is in the ignition barrel was wonky, inhibiting the remote central locking from working.

This only came to light when the "IGNITION KEY IN" warning showed up last night.

Waggled the key around a bit and - hey presto!

Saved me a fortune!
