Had a quick look on ebay but couldnt find what I was after.

Just had the driver side rear light bulb go at the petrol station. Want to get this replaced ASAP. Is it something thats relatively easy to change - or should I take it to a garage?

The main point of this thread is, where can I buy a rear light bulb from. I presume I will have to buy a set of rear light bulbs to replace it?

Easy job to reinstall them?

Cheers,

Alex

You will only need to replace the blown bulb...if both have gone it could be a wiring fault as it is rare for both bulbs to go, but it can happen....

Piece of cake to sort out, the P38 has access hatches in the boot area to get to the bulb holders....if it is a Classic, just unscrew the plastic lens and pop the bulb out....simples.

Bulbs can be bought from your local Halfords.....if you are unsure how to fit, for a couple of quid Halfords will do it for you.

sweet. I was at halfords earlier today, shame it hadnt blown earlier - couldve picked some up.

Its a 1997 P38, so I still access them through the boot.

Only the right rear light went out, left one still works fine.

Also -whilst im here.. its not a big issue, but is annoying me nonetheless.. My windows used to be if i pressed them once they would automatically go down by themselves, now I need to hold my finger on the window button and it wont do it automatically.

Have I accidently pressed a switch somewhere?

Yep through the access hatches in the boot lining....

As for the windows....if they are set (no warning on dash) then if yours don't do it, then this function has not been set as a parameter in the BeCM (the Vehicle brains)

to set this up, there maybe a helpful member on here close by (put your location in your profile) with the right Diagnostic gear to activate the One Touch function.....or you can go to your friendly dealer (£££) or indipendant garage (££) to do it for you....

But One-Touch used to work last week? I cant have disengaged it myself because I havent touched anything. I didnt know if a fuse went, or ive pressed a wrong button.

Make the window (press down) go down all the way, with your finger still on the down button count to 2, then immediately press it up, all the way again, again wait 2 seconds, and it will beep on your dash window set, then do the same to the others and your sunroof (if you have one)

Your bulb, open the back look at the back of your light cluster (your head in the boot) see it? OK open the panel, you see an oval light cluster that has to come out, have a look for the push clips on the outside of the bulb holder, just press them in and the holder will come out and in to your hand, take the offending duff bulb out, have a look at the back of it, has it got one or 2 led spots? have a look at the 2 spikes coming out of the side? are they parallel or staggered, look on the mettle bit of the bulb, it will tell you what volt and wattage it is, you have all the info you now need to buy the correct one, dont get halforsd to fit it for you, its a 2 min job, and you have to start learning how to do things yourself (with our help) or you will fine it very expensive to run your RR

Thanks for the reply. I will check tomorrow. Been massively busy these last few weeks thus the appauling reply.

Put on my chrome handles today, they look amazing. Now I just want to put a chrome front grill on and chrome lettering. Looks great with black RR, tinted windows and brown leather interior.

Hey team. Changed a bulb today (achievement unlocked). Thanks for the tips above.

Question: when I was fossicking around in the back of the light assembly there was an unused white "plug" or connection to power. This is on the left hand (passenger) side.

It was all tidy and taped up like it had never been used.

Any idea what that might be for?

Hi, no doubt for the trailer electrical socket!!

Yes, there's one either side. on the passenger side its for trailer power (like a caravan that uses vehicle power to power its accessories) the white socket, on the drivers side its for trailer lighting, the black trailer socket. Land rover put the plugs in to enable a direct plug and play connection rather than chopping into the wiring.
