Hi All,

I have a 01 P38 hse v8. Like most I have a mystifying battery drain...I would say it will stand for 3-4 days on a battery when its been used constantly. Local garages have never found out what the problem is so i've put it down to being a 'Land Rover' and possible interference from other homes as I have to park it up the street...Now is it common for them to be activated during the night, etc, by other alarms, radios?

The main reason for my post is i'm getting sick of jumping it now so I would like to buy a power pack...Does anyone know what power I will need? If i'm lucky the key fob will open the door and the warning lights will come on but will not turn over...Generally no power at all though. The ones in the local shops tend to be 900 peak amp power which i'm betting ain't enough!!

Any help much appreciated

Unless you fit a later version RF reciever, which is supposed to rectify this problem. But yours should have this. Yes they can be woken up by radio signals from all sorts of things. If you remove the right hand trim panel that the parcel shelf sits on, you will find the RF reciever. Disconnect the Blue wire from it.That is the aerial. You will have to be closer to the car to use the remote, but it should cut down the interference causing your problem.

Thanks wammers

Mate I have no problem with that if it works,In fact I'm more than happy to use the key, anything rather than this pain!! Bring back the simple cars I say!!
Do you have any ideas on the power pack if this doesn't rectify the prob?

Cheers

Not really but it has been muted before on here, think there is a Sealey one that is good, but don't think it is cheap. Have a look at Machine Mart, they do a 1010 ccp model emergency power pack for around £90.00.

wouldn't he be better off spending the £90, or a little more, on a decent spare battery, and some jump leads - rather than one of those silly booster things that tend to have a couple of 7Ah or similar sized SLAs inside

Yeah, thats not a bad price but still too expensive really when I can use the other car...It's just a real faf. I will remove that wire and see if it helps first mate. I'm guessing I can't miss the RF reciever?

No it would be difficult to miss. It has a plug going into it, and the single blue wire, pull the blue wire don't pull the plug.

Yeah maybe. Better to fix the problem though.

Sod all that effort,

Get the drain sorted out. It can be a difficult one to find if the people looking are unfamilier with range rovers.

The drains can stem form the RF receiver, door locks, under bonnet fuse box, under performing battery, door amp, corroded multiplugs etc etc. A good mechanic would be able to sort through them all in a couple of hours.

Sorry for the delay...Yes, cheers mate have removed it so will see i it helps. The only thing which has happened since though is I keep finding the indicators stuck on when it is locked...Any ideas??

Did you just remove the blue wire? Could be your RF receiver is shot. Otherwise check for wet carpets around the BECM:eek: Could be bad earths, corroded connectors etc.

Just to make sure it was the correct blue wire it went to the window behind the plastic the seat belt slider is attached to? I didn't so much as pull it off as it broke off but i guess its all the same. I reckon something strong is still interfering with it do you think?

You should have taken it off the receiver not the window LOL The amp for the radio is also under the plastic trim and uses the same window aerial.

HA! It shouldn't really matter though should it?! I hate electrics (almost as much as i'm beginning to hate this bloody car!) I found the amp as initially i thought it was the blue/black wire to that one until I took the shelf off completely. Assuming no dampness around the becm and it could still be the rf receiver, can I just get it disconnected? Would using the key in the drivers door still open all doors? I think I could live without remote locking and prefer it to start whenever i go out to it! Sorry i'm such an electrics pleb!!

Leaving the wire on the RF receiver means you still have an aerial of sorts.
Completely disconnecting the RF receiver can cause other problems, not sure about early ones but post 99 you will see the LED flash on the FOB when you insert it in the ignition, it is not happy if the receiver is not there:eek:
