Hi

I have just noticed today due to the petrol guage going from half to a quarter when parked on a slope  that I have a leak!

Got under the car and had a look and there is a leak from the top of the tank. Going to have to drop it but was hoping to pick up any parts I need before I do this. Would rather not drop it twice lol. Does anyone have any idea what it's more likely to be, pipe, seals etc. I have attached a couple of pics.

Any suggestions please, can afford to be losing motion lotion when I only get 16 to the gallon lmao

Cheers Chris

i'm always looking under mine to see where the petrol has gone!!!

i would have a look through rave cd, it will tell you all the seals you will need. ot might be worth putting a new pump and pipes on if the cash allows!

if you google FROST it will bring up frost parts suppliers in rochdale.they sell a kit for making fuel tanks stop leaking, not sure of the price but worth a look.

yeah, during winter to warm t'engine up see!

but i am looking into some form of heater for the vap, if i can get a 12v heat pad that'll warm the vap till coolant gets there i'll be chuffed. speshly if it can be automated so it goes off when coolant get warm!

you can get em on petrol, i dont mind a doozel one tho cos i gan run it on veg oil!! or if its not part of the car's system i can use red, theres a petrol station near me sells it at the pump!!!

i'll just fabricate a steel tank and sling it underneath somewhere, only needs to hold a gallon..... i have a plan!!!!

www.rangerovers.net gives a method of replacing the fuel pump without removing the tank. In the olden days if you had a classic range rover there was an inspection panel just above the fuel pump (as there is on modern Freelanders). It gave access to the fuel pump and the pipes that send fuel to the engine and the return, they will be very rusty and need replacing. The new pipes will have new seals too, this is where your leak is I think. Last year I had a fuel pump problem on my 1996 P38 4.6 - I obtained a fuel pump and the pipes that go from that down to the chassis, I also purchased, from Rimmer Bros, a fuel filter. The Rangerovers.net showes a method of cutting the floor (as there is no access panel due to the accountants who built the dambd thing) it worked and continues to work for me. Otherwise its drop the tank but you will still need the pipes and in my opinion it would be false economy not to renew the pump also especially as they fail so often at about 60k.

just need some bleedin time!!!

think i might have a looksy round some scrap yards. if you get bored you could make a list of cars/model/year/trim that heaters were offered on!!

Cheers fellas, looks like it will cost a little more than first thought then lol

Ain't that always the way though!!

had this problem with mine, fitted a new pump and fuel lines and filter,im no mechanic but had a go and sorted it,the delivery line exit the pump had corroded and were a swine to split,i looked at cutting the floor to do it that way but it would be impossible to fit the new lines with the tank in place.
