Hi Folks

does anyone have any ideas on how to solve a p38 1998 DSE auto gearbox overheat message on dash, appeared when driving through long wet grass. Now on 24/7 even when engine not been used for 48 hours so i know it's lying to me, the Beeping is now only when i turn on engine (was driving me mad every few seconds), has disappeared a couple of times, both when it's rained or raining,

I have had diagnostics done - couldn't find any problems so said it's a "phantom fault", sugested i replace the BeCM @£600.00, seems alot of money to get rid of a phantom message!!!!!!!!

Any help would be great, otherwise she goes well

Cheers
Sarah

thanks for suggestion,

but i thought you shouldn't disconect battery as it can send all codes funny (i was told to never leave tailgate open whilst competing horse as this drains the battery -

the RR has had recon head in march and new battery in April, Error message has only been since 27th may

i will check this out before i do this,

tried disconecting battery - set alarm off twice so quickly reatached - i didn't have key in the ignition not sure if i should of .

someone on internet said that most faults were with fuse box in engine compartment and to try there , any idea of part numbers the fuse box does look in good nick if i'm looking at the correct one (under bonnet behind battery.

i think a very big hammer may be needed,

cheers Sarah

No i ment to say the message is still there, the battery was only disconnected for a second as the alarm sounded - should i have waited longer ??? (i undid the negative on the battery?? was this correct, is there any way of leaving it longer and not getting the alarm to sound)

cheers for all your help

sarah

The alarm may have a battery back up so you cannot turn it off. Try the possitive terminal on battery to get a reset, if still no go, decent auto electrician req'd. I don't think your drive through long grass would be the cause just coincidence I think. Anybody else got any ideas?

Well rangey didn't like the positive being removed for 30 seconds - now have more error messages about windows not being set.
oh well looks like the hammer is the way to go!!!

Oh bugger, you can set the windows by holding the window switches all the way down, when the window is fully down keep holding the switch for 5 secs, then put the window up and hold the switch for 5 secs. Do this in turn with each window. The car needs to know the position of each window up & down so it can remember it.

Yes this has worked with the windows - cheers, i think my next 4x4 is not going to have a computer so i don't get these phantom messages.

Many thanks

Sarah
