So out on a run on Friday I noticed that the overdrive was getting a wee bit noisy. I would've struggled not to, at 55 it was screaming like a banshee!

So I changed the oil on Saturday and what came out was a grey, bubbly mess.

Any ideas what could be causing the oil to go crappy quite so quickly?

grey is water contamination usually , if its only just been changed may be crud left over from before contaminating new oil, whats g/box and t/box oil like

OD, gearbox and t/box all breathe through a small hole in plates on the top. If going wading the best solution is to drill, tap and fit breather unions and pipe and run em up high

I've not been wading, just a bit of splashing about in puddles. And not that much at that. I wonder how water's getting in there then...

could be something like molyslip which goes that colour. could be wear in the overdrive.

Also, could it have been overfilled? I managed to overfill my transfer case once and it came out as a kind of bubbly mayonnaise that I had to chuck out and couldn't reuse...

Nah. I put 400 mil in first time round, think that's right in't it?

Got some more EP on the way and will change all the boxes again and see what's what. (It's all nice and quiet-ish at the moment...)
