So. I went to the restorers / bodyshop with a few final bits and pieces (new rear lights, passenger cup holder) for them to fit so I can finally take the old girl home tomorrow. She looks mighty fine.

However.. (Isn't there always a however!) Whilst I'd been driving her I'd noticed that the wing mirrors occasionally flapped in their housing a little bit and the blind spot from them was outrageous. (I mean, I actually had to turn my head and check my blind spot rather than there being a bendy bit at the end that got it in for me! ) So I got to thinking that whomever had had her before me had put on some shonky stick on bits or something or other, so I ordered a new pair of heated ones with angled blind spot bits on them and set about changing them at the bodyshop earlier. (Bearing in mind the previous owner had vinyl wrapped her in fluorescent yellow I wouldn't put anything past them!)

Now. Taking the old one off wasn't an easy task. Hmm, I thought, there seems to be a lot of liquid built up in this dry cars wing mirror. I can't imagine that's good for it.... But I thought nothing more of it and finally got it off and tried to put on the new one only to find that no matter how I tried I couldn't get the bloody thing on. I'd googled it and watched youtube videos of it and it was supposed to just be that I clipped in the wires and on it went!

I've come back home as I had to start work at 2 and I've been looking around and low and behold I suspect that what I did when took off the old mirror (read, ripped it off and broke it in the process) is that I removed the £200 plus original Electrochromatic mirror that was an optional extra...

Now don't I feel stupid!!!

Does anyone have any tips as to how to buy said mirror as I can't seem to find them and the main stealer wants a fortune.

Here's the one I took off:
New Range Rover L322 convex right hand electrochromatic mirror with script

Here's the one I bought:
RANGE ROVER L322 2002-2004 DOOR WING MIRROR GLASS HEATED RIGHT | eBay

Fortunately I've not touched the nearside so I've still got one working mirror!!!

Well I sloped off from the restoration place as I had to start work so I'm hoping that it's all done when I get back. :)

As for the 'flappy' thing, I think it can be two different things. I bought two sets of these:

Freelander Land Rover mirror motor gear repair kit - mirror control motor gear | eBay

for the power fold which isn't working on the nearside but as for the mirror occasionally 'flapping' whilst driving I really don't have a clue what that could be.

I'm getting the old girl this afternoon and can't wait. It's been a month and she looked stunning yesterday. :)

Well at least it hasn't taken the shine of you looking forward to getting her back, I suppose that's the main thing.

My flappy right mirror only flaps between 5 and 10mm so it's not the end of the world but similar to yours, it very rarely opens up on the first push of the button whereas the nearside one is flawless. I think its an average of seven presses for the offside to kick into life!!!

You've gotta love em haven't you

Well I picked her up and she looks stunning. I'm really pleased with what they delivered. I'm half and half about getting a few other tiny niggles done but I'll wait until she's been to the garage and then see what that costs me first! :)
