One shot grease

I have a 2004 110. Bought it 2 years ago.
I still have my old 109 with EP 90 swivel pins.
The 110s L swivel housing was pitted and leaked. Had this replaced and put more grease in R side.
It then started to leak.
I was going to replace the seal by splitting seals. But when I cleaned and looked at the old seal, it is perfect and no damage.
A LOT of grease ran out and a lot remained.
It has now stopped leaking.
My question is whether too much grease can cause leaking ? Or was I stupid not to replace old one?

When grease gets warm it leaks just like oil. Things stop leaking when there is nothing left to leak. Filling pits in the ball can work as a temporary fix [ can last quite some time ]

Both balls, new L and old R- that is the one currently leaking- beautiful and no pitting.
Also still lots of grease left in R side and no leak so far.

If filled too full some may have been forced out. As there is grease in the unit and not now leaking just keep an eye on it. Also worth a check axle breather is clear.

Im not sure on the later cars but is it shimmed equally top and bottom ie is the seal central in relation to the swivel ball?

I have had it where if you let the seal take the weight even for a short period the seal is then gauranteed to leak shortly afterwards.

Hi, only now gone early 3 door disco, I adjusted the up / down shims (I think?) plus i renewed the wheel bearings then started using graphite grease in the hubs, must admit I put in more than the one shot tudes more like 3 shot tubes, but never gave me much trouble at all.. TBH I must have rewed most of the moving parts on the front except the swivel bearings and had it 10 years.. after a long journet I did get a slight weepage but only when hot, I used to go round feeling the hubs to see if they were all the same temp..lol

I had the swivel balls replaced (on my 2005 TD5) and after a few thousand miles the new ones started to leak.
I spoke to my LR garage and they said “they leak”
I also discovered that the diff oil and swivel grease were mixing.
So l spoke to my LR garage and they said “forget it”
But l got them to replace the axle seals anyway.
After that l changed the axle oil a few times to try and get rid of the grease that was in there.
Now the grease and oil don’t mix, but the swivels still leak, despite looking like new, which they are.
(Although they leak a lot less than the pitted originals)
At this point l gave up and just top them up with grease at each service.
