Hello,
I would really appreciate a bit of guidance... Gearbox removal or engine out?
I need to replace the main crank seals (I think???) as I the much loved old dog (series 2a) trick of marking the ground as he went, has become a geriatric problem of serious incontinence! It is hurling the black stuff everywhere, and gushing from the drain hole on the bellhousing/clutch assembly.
So which end do I start, is it less hassle to lift the engine or remove the box and drives to get at it? I have a pit and an engine lift... I am just short of some enthusiasm and encouragement to begin what looks like a lot of sore knuckles and sweat. I am a great believer in finding the easier option if there is one? (By the way special landrover oil leak stopper at £15 a pot is useless... but it did silence some of the rattles in the series 3 diesel engine that seems to be the source of the problem). Many thanks for any help, advice or sympathy.
