Whenever I brake sharply in my S3 Diesel, the green oil pressure warning light comes on.

Does anyone know what causes this?

Thanks for any info.

My series three 2.25 diesel also does that. If i run it with the oil level slightly up it smokes,
I have checked the crank and changed all the shells etc. this made no difference at all so i decided to leave well alone and it was ok for three years. Totally unrelated to this issue last week it dropped a hotspot and wrecked the engine. I will rebuild another engine with a rebore new pistons, valves, guides etc.plus a new oil pump and see if the same problem is on the new engine.

The oil level is ok. I checked it the first time I noticed the light coming on and it was fine. I have checked it plenty of times since.

What do you mean by "dropped a hotspot"?

My petrol does that. It's just the oil getting thrown forward in the sump, wouldn't worry about it.

In a way, it's quite useful. I can tell when I need to put more oil in without even checking because the light comes on more often.

webley 1991 A dropped hotspot is a term for the hotspot insert that is in the cylinder head either breaking up and the pieces falling into the engine damaging the valves. piston, head and block. This is what happened to mine.
A real bummer is the replacement engine has a loose hotspot rattling around that has done more damage than my own engine. I now face trying to get another head and getting my original block top face skimmed to remove the damage and then i may need to machine some off the piston tops. Who would play with old landies like this?
