Hi, i just bought a Freelander 1.8s x plate. 2001. 68,000 miles. I drove it quite a few miles. Parked it.. Cleaned it, took it for a spin. And as i parked it up i noticed a hell of a lot of oil on the floor.
The neighbour told me its not the headgasket as there isnt any loss of water or power to the car..
Can anyone help me?? Im thinking this is gonna cost me..
Graham.

Firstly, where did you buy the Freelander? Has it got a warranty with it?
There are plenty of seals that can cause oil leeks with no loss of power, engine to gearbox for example. Your best bet is to get under the car and look to see where the oil has come from.
Just a thought, check the oil filter. I once changed an oil filter but forgot to remove the old rubber gasket. It ****ed oil out quite bad.

Thanks. My neighbour who is a mechanic said the same about the oil filter seal. I will check it out. If it ever stops raining that is..

Well I'm glad I was not alone to have this kind of problem, back in the '60's with my Morris Mini I had the same when I changed my first oil filter ever, did not know there was a gasket still squeezed in the housing, so I mounted the new filter with a new gasket (was still the way you had to screw off the housing and put a new cartridge inside of it, not the new method of having it all together) and the oil came out. I think that the Td4 has the same system again, with a separate cartridge to be put in the housing I mean.

After i have got this leak sorted im selling it..
So if anyone is interested. :)
1.8s 2001. 68,000 miles. mot till jan 07.

But you've just brought it!
You'll lose money surely?
If it's just the oil filter you may as well keep it.

Depends on how much it costs to fix the leak.
Have you any idea wot sort of price that make/ model if fetching?
Graham

Well a 5 door, private sale in good condition could fetch around £6000.
3 door hard back around £5700.
3 door soft back around £5500.
This is according to the Parkers guide.

well that sounds pretty good.I think im gonna let it go then..
If anyone out there is interested...

Hooray.. oil leak sorted. :)
It was the oil filter...
Got under the car while it was running, it was p***ing out.
Took it off, all corroded. Whoever fitted it had put the date he fitted it.
11/02/03. omg. Same filter for 3 years.
Now got a new one on, for the princely sum of £3.75..
Im a happy man again, but im still sellin it..
Thanks for ya help.
