Oil leak - how to clean engine

I have an oil leak... and want to at least identify where its coming from.

Appears to be from the top of the engine, maybe rocker cover gasket area? maybe injector rail area??

Anyway there is a load of oil laden gunk all over the block that I want to remove, cant see anyway of getting it all with a rag so was thinking on getting the power washer involved

What would I have to be carefull of and what should I try and cover/waterproof first.
Or is it just a bad idea and I should do something else???

i often steam clean engines , just dont aim it direct at alternator etc

if diesel they're pretty forgiving _ just avoid directly spraying alternator or starter too much

Long brush and plenty of gunk worked well in, let sit then hose (or jet) off should do the trick
