Oil Leak......Help!

I've noticed that i have got an oil leak on my 52 plate Td4.

Seems to be coming from the back of the engine (bulk head side). Not had chance to have a proper look yet.


Any ideas what it might be?

Yeah, the seals and parts that hold the oil are not doing their job and the oil is falling out. Have a look first and report what you have found.

think it might be spelt sarcasm...

as for your comment about the lack of suggestions, you can't even be arsed to get a torch and try and see where it's coming from before coming on here and expecting us to be able to diagnose the leak from the myriad of potential sources.

what do you expect ?

if you go through the posts on this forum, you will find that even people who come on here and say "it's leaking from the black crinkly bit that's connected to the plastic twisty bit under the moving bit" get help.

please and go and have a look, and we'll try to help. even better, if you can, take a photo of what you find.

Another ****ing gem.

I've got nothing better to do tonight so i'll just pop out with my camera and film all the likely places where oil might leak from while he sits on his arse and waits for some instruction....

I'm all for offering advice to help people out and save a few quid but some of these posts are taking the ****!

Sorry Pardec, we can help you but you've got to help us help you, if you see what I mean.

Your TD4 has an oil leak. Okay, now is it engine oil, gearbox oil, IRD oil, brake fluid, or power steering fluid. You say its at the engine bay so I' go as far as discounting differential oil. You see the problem? Right, have a look tomorrow and try and determine where the leak is coming from. Ideally post a photo if you can. There is a good bunch of guys on here and between us we've seen most things on the Hippo. Once we can see your problem then we will do our best to advise you on the best course of action.

Please also supply any other information about the vehicals past, such as any mechanical work that has been done, any other problems you might have observed etc. Also, if you adjust your profile to show us the area you live in then we maybe able to assit in the best places to get parts etc.

Going by your few posts it would appear you've just bought this..... car?

Was it from a 'Steeler' or a private sale?

Is there anything in the history to suggest there has been a problem before?

I have a slight oil leak too, its coming from the back of the engine, and left hand side as you look at it from the front of the car. It seems to be coming from the corner where the head meets the block, just where the water pump and I think the thermostat housing is, but behind this lot.

Are the TD4 head gaskets prone to leaking in this area.... or is there some thing else oil related round there, I could not see anything else, so I`m thinking head gasket.

Its not the rocker cover gasket as its clean up there.

its the end sell it or burn it out....

Any one any ideas from my description? I can only think head gasket? has anyone every had to replace a HG on a TD4?
