I own a 1992 ford w/ a 302 and recently i have started adding oil
between oil changes so i began searching for a cause. While checking
the air filter i realized that the crankcase fitler was soaked in oil
and has also covered my air filter box w/ oil. I have checked the pcv
valve and it is clear. The truck starts and run great, doesn't
overheat or have power loss. Any ideas on what would cause this large
amount of oil to be expelled through this crankcase vent? What can i
check or replace any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would start by replacing the PCV valve. Visually inspecting them
usually reveals nothing, as acidic gases from the crankcase eventually
reduce the valve's ability to seal.

Cheaper yet, disconnect the PCV hose from the air filter housing and
go for a short drive. I wouldn't leave it disconnected for long
though (oil spillage in engine bay).

How many miles do you have on the motor? It could be as simple as
blow-by or it could be as bad as a broken ring.

Aloha!

Had the same problem on an 91 Bronco with supposedly only 67 K. I could
lose a quart in two hours on a hot day on the freeway. Rebuilt the
engine. Cured everything.
