I have a p reg 300tdi auto.

I have had it for 4 years now from 96k now 115k. I am not sure when if ever the auto box oil has been changed. The question is do I bother changing all and filter which seems like a big job or just drain and refill with new oil.

Whilst I am at it I am going to do the axles and transfer box is standard EP90 ok. I was thinking of putting some liquid grease in the axles as well.

Just ep90 for axles and transfer box.easy enuf job.

If you dip stick your auto box if it red it shouldnt need doin if it brown drain it.

EP90 or EP80w/90

With the auto box does it need the screen changing and full drain or can I get away with changing the oil only.

I seem to remember somewhere reading that you can just drain and replace half the oil 4.5 l or there about.

How easy is either process as the Haynes manual just says take to a landy dealer

Hi,

You can only change 1/2 of it at a time without doing the filter. 4 years sounds like a long time between changes.

Even with changing the filter only 1/2 of the fluid can be drained.

To replace all the fluid at once can be done via the cooler pipes, which are hooked up to a machine designed to to that, The main dealer and indi I use has such a machine.

Some say the only other way is to replace what you can and later after a run replace the fluid again, not a 100% fluid change but near enough.

My fluid & filter (which is just a screen) was changed in 2000 and again in 2010 so ten years apart without any probs in between or after.:)

The next question then.

I am going to change the auto oil or half of it anyway this year next half next year. So do I replace 5-% with dexron 3 or 2. Does it matter ?

Cost is not the issue
