What the FARK have I just done? It's a bit hazy, and I think I've OD'd on diesel fumes... but I think I just bought a '93 defender.

I guess the mechanical repairs start... errr... about here really.

Hee hee - only had it about 3 hours and I've already had to fix something! Doubt this is a record though... drivers side door switch for the interior light was sticking - it isn't now.

Got a shortlist of things to repair/replace already. Steering is a little out of whack - looks like the drop arm ball joint has seriously had it. Mr. Haynes suggests leaving the overhaul to a Land Rover dealer as it involves the use of 'several special service tools' - but looking at this:

I can't see where you'd need a SST other than a pair of circlip pliers. I suppose there's always the lazy mans option of:

http://www.paddockspares.com/pp/DEFENDER/Steering/PAS_drop_arm_and_kit_for_3_and_4_bolt_box_RHD.html

I'm assuming here that a '3 or 4 bolt box' refers to the number of bolts on top of the PAS box (4 in my case) but I'd be ever so glad if someone were to correct that for me.

TIA,
