So, took my Disco on its first green lane today. It wasn't much but I enjoyed it and didn't risk hurting my stock Disco. Now I'm at home tapping the sofa, with my legs twitching just wanting to go out again. I find myself constantly looking at ways to make my everyday car so much better off road.

I didn't realise owning a land dog would have this much effect. I only wanted to try it out. Now I'm considering digging up my drive and front garden just to get my daily fix!

I've got the bug, and can't turn back. Anyone else experience this!

Yep, 1st green lane on New Years eve with around 15-20 other Landys. Knocked the **** out of side steps, took a fair chunk of Derbyshire home stuck to the tow bar. Totally stockDisco but I've just taken delivery of a couple of diffguards, a steering/sump guard and am thinking of a 2" lift .
I've driven Ferrari's and Porsches on track days, rode sportsbikes for 30 years on road and track, but following the one laning session I've had, I totally get it.
I bought my Disco as a sacrificial winter car, 2 years ago, to save wrecking my Merc C63.
C63 is now gone and I can honestly say that I intend keeping this old, tatty, slow, but fun, green goddess, forever :D.

Yep I'm the same. Keep looking at diff guards steering and sump and seriously considering a 2" lift. Really want to keep the air suspension so I'll be following the guide on www.discovery2.co.uk pretty much my favorite website at the mo!

I just can't seem to get enough but don't want to wreck my motor either. Difficult situation lol

yer mean LZ isn't yer favourite?!:eek::eek:

 a 2" lift won't make it any better off road, just makes you able to fit bigger tyres.

Get some all terrain's/mud tyres and some under body protection and go have some fun before you spend a fortune!

^^^^ of course LZ is my fav lol discovery2.co.uk has very useful steps which follow the route I would like to take my disco.

That's the plan, lift the disco to fit bigger tyres after underbody protection. It's my daily car and I have to keep it in such a way that I can turn up to customers without looking like I might reverse over their car if I'm not looking. Would like to keep it looking fairly stock with some mods for better off road performance.

It's all a learning curve. I'm sure in a years time I would have changed my mind and be making it into a off road beast.

Absolutely. Got the General Grabber A/T's and underbody protection.
Isn't it incredible that these 20+ year old vehicles are still able to get the crap beaten out of them without (too much) complaint at the weekend and then run all week to work, shops etc.

Hi Nickp3003

I actually just went out with a friend of mine but only in my landy, as we didn't have another vehicle to help us out if we got stuck it was only some simple stuff. Would be well up for meeting up for some more laning.

Yes i was looking at the AT, i have the Conti Mud and Snow at the moment which are OK, but the general AT2's or AT3s look like a good step up!

Nice me and a mate sometimes go out laning, he's in a td5 defender 90, (doesn't like to scratch it though it is rather nice), as for my rust bucket of a disco I would happily drive it through a hedge. But always happy to do simple stuff.

Ill be sure to invite you out next time we go if you could do the same!

Yes mate, well I'm quite the same, not keen on getting any marks on my disco, although that may eventually change. I guess sometimes the inevitable happens if your tackling harder lanes. I normally just spend a few hours driving around them. Not very interesting but a good start to learn how to use the truck correctly.

sounds good! ive had the disco about 3 months now and was gonna keep it scratch free as possible, until I went laning around the Cotswolds with a few people.

Theres hardly any paint left it came off in chunks in places, I smashed 2 lights off my roof bar and broke a little bit on the snorkel... oh well was good fun :D
