I love my RRC, I really do, but sometimes it just drives me insane. I bought it with the idea of bringing it back to its former glory having been sat for 4 years – was generally good condition but needed some TLC.

All 4 tyres looked OK when I bought it just 5 months ago, no major issues. However, the two Toyo’s on the rear looked a little perished so, for peace of mind, I changed them for some Hankook A/T tyres – the Toyo’s would be fine at slow speeds but at motorway speeds I didn’t want to risk it! Then one of the two Goodyear Wranglers on the front got a puncture, so I replaced that like-for-like for a new one, as they garage had one in stock and was ‘only’ £85. Now the one remaining ‘original’ tyre, the other Wrangler, has developed a slow puncture through a hole that has already been repaired previously, so can’t be fixed again – how bloody annoying!! :doh: The spare is some Michelin thing, and I don’t want mis-matched tyres across an axle so gonna have to get a new one.

So, I’ve now replaced all 4 tyres! What is ultra-annoying is were I replacing all 4 together, I’d probably go for some 235 wide A/T’s all round, rather than the stock 205 fitment, but as I have already changed 3 tyres I’m not gonna go buy another 4.

Anyway, rant over – but how friggin’ annoying!!! :mad:

P.S. If anyone has a decent 205-wide Goodyear Wrangler M+S tyre please let me know!! :D
 
Stick with the 205's. Cheaper on fuel, cheaper to run, better in bad weather.

I don't think wider tyres bring anything to the party unless you're going to sling some neon underneath. :D

also if that is your main hassel on a classic after more than 2 weeks ownership you are doing well Mike!!

does your heater work properly now btw?
 
Do you reckon the tyre width really makes much difference to fuel economy then Horse? I've recently removed the front spoiler for a spot of greenlaning this weekend and offroading the next - although it'll be going back on straight after, I don't like the look of them without it! Wonder if that effects fuel economy (positively or negatively)?

Perhaps I should count myself lucky fett! :D Just a royal PITA. When I bought the Hankook rears I did get a decent Pirelli Scorpion as well, so have chucked that on the front and am, tempted to leave it like that, as it drives fine and it's the same size as the Goodyear on the driver's side! Then got a worn but legal Michelin on the spare - that'll do for now! :)

Heater always worked OK fett? Engine is slow to get up to temp as need a new thermostat - will order the 'stat today but draining the system down will be annoying as I only changed the coolant recently :mad:

front spoiler being removed will save around 4mpg according to the handbook.
 
nothing there = no air resitance.Possibly worse air flow but that makes more difference on f1 cars etc, not 2 ton bricks.

Might leave it off, but fit the standard fog lamps back on without the valence - night driving without them is terrible!

Standard headlamps aren't the best but I did find putting in some extra bright halogen bulbs (not HID) did help but a row of roof lights really makes a difference:D (need to watch out for the glare off the bonnet and dash though:eek:)

Bet they don't do much for your fuel consumption at any sort of speed:eek:
 
I'm thinking of leaving the front spoiler off, but bolting the standard fog/driving lights back on to the bumper! How much did you want for that spare spoiler and lights Kev?
