Advice please I would like to buy a diagnostic tool Do the ELM 327 ones read from a 1998 p38 . The garage has switched off the oxygen sensors to get the lpg to stay on as the reading says nil from both - which I think is unlikely as in dont think both sensors packed up at the same time - from working to nothing . So was going to buy one of these tools and switch them on and trace the fault
Any help appreciated
Sandy

I'd like to know how they turned 'em off in the first place, they're controlled by the ECU with no seperate power source, no diagnostic tool I know of will turn these off.

They plugged into the socket under the passenger front and monitored what each sensor was producing and then @switched them off@ after which the lpg stayed on so not surewhat they did

They gave you some BS,thats what they did.As Clutchdust said they are fed 5v straight out of the Ecu,and if they fail to switch down,(lean) they just output 5v.Are you confident of their ability,or do you think they are trying to shaft you ?

they seem pretty ok and havent charged me they did some work for me before that was ok which was the gas conversion everything was fine after i dropped the new engine in then i had to go back to get the cats replaced as the old engine prob had burned out the new cats so the new cats were fitted and suddenly no lpg working so i went to the lpg boys and they said it was the lamda sensors so they hooked up the device and there was no reading from either thats when they said they had switched them off and the lpg has stayed on - the bloke in the garage said to try and find out if they were on a fuse as it looked like there was no voltage at all

All of which tells me they dont know what they are doing,if they did they would have pinout data on the Gems Ecu AND understand how they are fed, heated and earthed. Now they are trying to get you to do their job.
