Have just bought this and waiting to get some side steps. Does anyone know if there is any cutting out to do, or is it just bolt on. I have the 2005 facelift model. Anyway unless it's dead simple It will be going to the garage for fitting, but I don't fancy any cuts in the bumper. Thanks

The plastic nudge bars are pointless as they cannot withstand ANY force.

Also, the side steps are also pointless. Most serve little use as actual steps as the step area is too narrow.

Also, the mounting brackets hang down quite low and hinder your ground clearance. Look what my sidesteps did to my car when I lightly hit one of the mounting brackets: (I removed the steps before I took the pic)

I wouldn't recommend using side steps. They serve little use (considering the Freelander isn't very high off the ground anyway) and will only damage your vehicle if you do any light off roading / green laning.

If you wanna upgrade your Freelander, the most useful things to do would be:

- Fit all terrain tyres
- Fit the 2" lift kit
- Fit Synergy engine mod

Thanks for that it seems some mods are actually useful and others are just bling! I am going to have the remap and will price up all terrain tyres., I am hoping if remapped, the mpg might improve as it has dropped since the car has gotten older. It is always maintained well etc but a few more mpg would really help.. Would the lift just mean new suspension coils or is it more detailed. Gonna have a look at the two inch lift kit, does it affect handling much? Thanks again

Another couple of useful mods (in my opinion) is fitting the BMW crankcase breather mod and the EGR bypass, also check if the VCU has been changed (over 70,000 miles) or you may knacker up the diff and ird.

Ive fitted plastic nudge bar to mine just for bling - yes there is cutting to be done.

My Freelander came with the steps already fitted and they came in very useful the other day while stationary when a lady decided to reverse down the side of my car. I could only watch as I was stuck at a junction while the other car reversed into me. The side side steps bounced her car off of me causing a slight graze to the bumper.

Useful mods.
BMW vortex engine breather conversion kit
EGR bypass - clean your inlet manifold at the same time
as said before keep an eye on your VCU
