My Freelander Td4 doesn't always want to start!

I've discovered through the AA that I have to wiggle the wire that comes out of the top of the fuel pump. Normally this works like a dream, but just recently I wasn't able to do it myself and had to get the AA out again.

Landrover reckon it's the fuel cut off switch, but that's mounted on a different part of the engine and so I can't see why wiggling a wire would make much difference.

Don't really want to pay for a new switch to be fitted if that's not the real cause.

Anyone able to suggest anything????

The fuel cut off switch is at the back r/h side of engine bay got a red button on top , on the r/h side under wheel arch is your lift pump filter and fuel heater all in a plastic cowel [is this the one you mean] and if yes then your cable to ya pump could be breaking, if you get a mate to turn on yer ignition[sorry glow plugs on] and put yer hand on the pump should run[vibrate for bout a minute] then shut orft , if not then no signal, so could be your wire or a poor earth or ya fuel pump relay is sticking , another one is yer fuel filter is blocked, best of luck. . .:)
