put key in no dash lights wont start and steering lock is on battery is 12.64v so ok
any of you good people any ideas

I went to the shops started fine come back tried to start it and nothing all the fuses seem intact when I press the start button I hear click sound from the pass footwell where the fuses are

Was there a passenger in the vehicle? Its sometimes possible for a passenger foot to dislodge a wire from the CJB, giving various power issues.

Try jiggling the steering as you put the fob into the dock. Often its too much for the servo to unlock the steering when it is pulling to one side. Until it unlocks the steering you wont get any further.

Can the steering lock be taken off so it don't engage but keep connected

Yes, some diagnostic equipment can disable the steering lock.
However unless you can get power to the vehicle, then diagnostic equipment can't do any configuration.

Have you checked the fuses in the engine bay fuse box? There's one (I can't remember the number off hand) that feeds the CJB, which has been know to fail.

Checked every fuse it's no doing my nut in
Could the steering lock be dropped but still connected
I've never tried to remove and fix a steering lock module, when it's actually locked. I suspect it's not easy to do, or the vehicle would be easy to steal.

Will an emulator help so I can get the lock off to get it up the garage

No. A lock emulator will only "trick" the start module that the steering lock is released, if it's actually released when the emulator is installed.
If the steering lock is locked, then the start module needs to see it unlock, before it allows the rest of the system to boot up.
You could try removing the column cowling (be careful of the knee airbag) and tapping the locking module, as they often only suffer bad electrical connections inside.
