Freelander 1.8 petrol won't start. Has been stood for 6 months. was almost empty of fuel when stopped.

New battery and sparks. Turns over fine, but just won't fire. Pulled plugs and spark is fine. Pulled fuel line from below the inlet manifold, and fuel sprays when I turn the key, although the second supply to the injector rail is dry. Haven't done a compression test, but head gasket was done about 50k ago and was running fine 6 months ago.

Have flattened the battery twice turning it over.

Any thoughts, or further investigations to suggest? WHat could I have varnished as the fuel dried out?

Many thanks.

if the land rover 1.8 is anything like the rover 200 vi set up (which im 99 percent sure it is )

once the batery is dead and a new one is fitted you need to ensure its fully charged and let it stand for a good 30 mins

with my 200vi it was the imboliser not the fuel etc ,would turn etc but just not start ,i called the aa out they said it was a safty thing rover fitted to the imboliser

after around 30 mins the imboliser turned off and my car started again on first turn of key

may not be your prob but worth looking into before you start spending ££££ on it

Does the K series have the button thing you have to push down in the engine bay which cuts off the fuel in an emergency?, I recall one of the guys at work bought a Clio which had stood for ages-he had the battery off to charge it but the bloody thing wouldn't start until someone suggested trying the button in question...gave it a push and hey presto the car started!

yes the engine will have the switch in question (inertia switch ) if you hit a bump real hard some times it trips the switch

like said try the reset on it
