Hello to everyone, I am a shinny new member tonight! Ahhhh!
I just wanted to share an interesting thing that happened to me recently!
I was selling my wifes 2000 Freelander 1.8i with 56000 genuine miles on clock, and a very nice (mechanic) guy came to buy, but due to a 'noise' coming from the 'rear end' he wanted further investigation, rightly so. He mentioned 'big end', wheel bearings', etc.
To explain the noise, it came in (quietly) from about 30mph and increased with speed. Remained while depressing clutch, and braking.
I went to 'Charles Hurst' Land Rover dealer, Belfast, where a 'senior' mechanic came to my rescue - on first look at the Freelander, he said 'I know exactly what your problem is', I thought, Oh no, here goes £800+', 'Change your tyres!' came the reply!!!
As there was a different set of makes on the front than on the back, a local tyre depot swopped fronts to back (+ balancing) and, hey, presto, noise gone, and like wise, Freelander! £8.00, problem solved! Phewwww!
This may have been discussed before on this forum, I just couldn't find it, and I know sometimes there is 'MORE' wrong to the Freelander backends as happened mine, but, it is worth a check out in first instance?
Hope this helps someone else in future?
Regards, VCZ 3
