Hello everybody

I have just bought a landrover freelander 2000 td4. On the motorway between 50 and 70 in 5th gear I get a noise coming from the rear not bad but sounds like thye wind blowing on a steel plate, this only happens when your foot is on the accelerator when you lift off it stops no matter what what speed you are doing. What I want to know is, is this normal? Anybody any Ideas? I have bought the car private so no come back to any garage!

Hi Darren
I have the exact same problem, A whining noise, but mines on the near side rather than the back
Oh! its ok ive sorted its just our lass( slow down! ,watch were yer going!)

I had a noise that sounded just like you have described after in had been in LR work shop for 2 days they said it was a baffel in the rear box i had it changed. Only to find out it was still there went out one night woith my son got him to stick his head out of the sun roof and we found the problem the ariel was hitting the roof when we got up to 50 60 miles hour.Problem solved the ariel hed split so when we got up speed it spplit and hit the roof when we was parked up it look normal.
letsss hope you have the same problem as its about 8.00 for a new areil

Well if its not as per last thread, try yer exhaust ,run yer motor on tickover and wait till up to normal temperature , put on a rubber glove [no jokes please] get a damp cloth and ram it down yer rear hole[no jokes please]you should get a build up of pressure[no jokes please] if not you've got an exhaust leak, and you've now gotta find it,Ming would like to add that there is no sexual connotation's in the last bit of thread, and Ming cannot be held libel for anyone burning any part of their said persons or body or any bodily part being stuck up the rear bit. . .

Thanks for the suggestions, After looking through the other threads I am wondering if it could be a seized VCU as after trying various other things it seems I have all the tell tail signs. But could someone please axplain when a VCU is Seized what happens to it? Is it not possible to free it up? If I need to replace it is it Urgent or is there some way to delay replacing it? How can I tell if it has damaged the IRD?
Grateful for any replies.
Darren
