Hi, thanks 4 looking!

i've just bought a defender 90 got it home and tried the transfer box(i did try it when i bought it and it worked). i put it in low, then tried the diff and all worked. i then tried to put it back in high and it went into neutral and now i can't select any, its like theirs no gears there. i managed to get it into high with a screwdriver so i could drive it. i'm hoping it just somthing like the linkage.

Any1 any ideas where i should start looking?

Thanks.

There is a NEUTRAL position between HIGH range and LOW range, so you found it!

The problem is usually lack of use of the low range and the linkages become dry and stiff.

If you can get under the Landy (wear goggles to keep the crap out of your eyes) you will soon see the linkages, and you can give the whole lot a good slosh with oil.

One way is a small paint brush, and a 50-50 mixture of engine oil and paraffin aka kerosene. This soaks in very well quite quickly, and with a few minutes wiggling the range change lever about between high and low, and Diff LOCK / FREE, it will soon ease off. Do not use FORCE though. Treat it gently till it eases off.

It you take off the rubber cover around the gear lever, and tie your little paint brush to a stick to make it longer, you can apply the oily mix from inside the car.
