No engine check light

hi everyone i have a 1997 p38 dse and its always been nightmare to start, now the engine and glow plug lights dont come on and due to that it dont start now, i took it to a landrover garage here its been there 2 days now but they reacon they cant check it on comp till its running, so they are going to prob charge me the earth for nothing, does anyone know what might be the fault,

hi i have a p38 4.0 petrol .had no e/c/light tryed to start it for days ,every thing worked but not starter and its auto so no tow start ,anyway it turned out to be the fuse box £200 plus latter jobs a goodun,this was found thanks to this forum .:)
 
at first it was just not starting but the 2 lights were coming on so i changed the glow plugs, the leak offs, and see the fuse on the glow plug relay was out, so brought new one that is when the lights stopped coming on, and the garage reacon its the solenoid on the pump but its not that because the light will come on sometimes and then it starts after abit of turning over, and they still say they cant do checks without it running, i was thinking it might be ecu knackered.
does anyone know anywher in bedford i can take it because these are doing my nut in

my snap on scanner works with just the ignition on
 
theres a lo1bcal mobile diagnostic bloke round here and he said it would but he had heart attack so cant do nothing for 4 weeks, so you reacon a fusebox or loose wire on alternater, how comes everything else works that needs fuse
 
£180 later and mr landrover says he cant really help anymore without it running,

hi skip never said thats what it was just that where you start looking start a new thread and ask if anybody knows anybody local to you that does call out with rovercom or testbook
 
also when the engine light come on and it finally starts it says all windows and doors not set and when i drive after a while it comes up gearbox fault and goes into safe mode and some times stalls, does this make it sound like the ecu more and more or just needs resetting as the battery went flat
 
right got it back today they now say its the becm and quoted a grand, i took fuse box apart and relay 7 panel is slightly burnt and smells a little, i only dismanttled to where it needs un-soldering would this make the engine light stay off and not smell
