No air con in the car

When I have the air con on, no cold air comes in through any vents inside the car.
Had it checked over and was told every thing was working perfectly, plenty of gas, condenser fine, plenty of pressure. The pipes going into the car by the bulk head are cold.
The guy reckons that the controls changing air direction in the car are some how not working properly :confused:.

Any one have any ideas or had a similar problem?

ok earthling. . . .turn on air con run fer bout ten mins [lift bonnet] you dunt say wot model ,but then yous er earthling :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: look fer two stainless pipes wiff schroder valves [the bits they fill it up wiff freeon] the one on the left should start to get colder as air con werks, if that is werking ,then it could be vent flaps. . . . .:) :) :)
 
Errr, thanks for answering an earthlings question :confused: its an MY01 TD4.
Think you could be right about the flaps, just wondered if anyone else had had this too.

I have a Td4 MY01 as well and up till last year were the two main concerns/complaints for me 1. the aircon and 2. the heating. Now I am very satisfied with both, after my wife found the correct settings of the flaps. I used to have the setting always on the 2nd from left going clockwise (half footwell/half cabin) and the heating in the winter, in spite of the FBH, was luke air. The same in the summer, the 'cooled' air was also everything but cold. And then my wife started to experiment with the settings and when she put it on the total left position (everything through the middle of the dahsboard) the difference was like day and night, cold in the summer and warm in the winter. My neighbour with his Td4 Sport MY05 had the same problem but now he also tried this setting and he was really suprised and happy with the heating now, even through he has no FBH. I wonder how he will be doing with the aircon now (since temperature floats around 28-29C° overhere). It doesn't cost you a penny to try.. Good luck. ;)
What I also do is to engage the recirculation when putting the aircon on, so the already cooled air is re-used and makes it easier for the system. (Let's say the EGR for the aircon.....:D :D :D :D
 
Have experimented with all the different settings and still no cold air :(. My feeling is that if no cold air is coming through any setting then surely it has to be more than just the flaps possibly sticking, the hot control not closing off properly?

You say "plenty of pressure". Too much pressure is as bad as too little, you should have between 2 and 4 bar on the low side and 10 to 15 bar on the high side, pressure will vary with ambient temperature.

firstly, since you know it has gas, is to make sure the compressor is running, to do this, take off the plastic cover behind the drivers front wheel to see the compressor, start the engine, turn on the a/c, turn the wheels full right lock and have a look to see if the center part of the compressor is turning, dont put your fingers in there!!!!!

If it's turning then its either a cable problem/adjustment for the hot/cold dial, too low/high on gas or maybe a compressor or TXV valve fault, pressure readings will tell you if it is.

If it's not turning then it's either out of gas or there is an electrical fault.

The a/c is controlled by the instrument pack and engine ecu so interogating the instrument pack with T4 will tell you the status of the system including pressures and whether the engine ecu is getting an a/c request signal.
 
Thanks clutchdust :), the guy who checked the unit said the pressure was fine, so I'm guessing not too high or too low :confused:. The compressor seems to be working fine.

Looks like its off to the garage :(
 
have yer checked to see if the air flow through the condensor is ok or is it blocked wiff dead things.i.e bugs, wasps,leaves and other accumulated stuff? you might have to take it out and clean it with an airline.

I think the slob means something else. The cold pipes going through the bulkhead are coming straight from the airconunit, so far everything seems to work fine, thus rests the slob's suggestion that the airflow IN the car is some place blocked preventing the air blowing through the cold radiator and then into the car ??
 
Reet earthlings ,Ming's basic air con testin fer thick earthlings, . . .run engine wiff air con on un coldest setting vents around to the left . . .leave fer 3 earth mins at the beginning low pressure fill up valve [under bonnet at back of engine lhs of the two fill ups] put mitt[hand] on lhs side valve and it should be cool [not freezing]as you get closer to the three earth mins this should get colder[not friggin freezing] now if this is good ,then this is a basic rule er thumb test that the whole circuit is complete,[and yes slob is correct if the condenser is blocked it wont work] now fer the more clever earthlings i will run through how it werks [titter]:D ok the lhs valve is the refrigerant top up port [called low pressure service port] at normal air temp should be about23-44psi [i put in 48] the other port do not touch [its fer eggsperts like me] ok wiff every fing switched on from lhs port [low pressure] it goes to the compressor and turned from low to high pressure ,this is termed 1st stage. . .it then goes into the condenser [at front er motor] and has cold air passing by driving forwards or by the fans [this changes from h/pressure to high pressure liquid[2nd stage] .. .last is the evaporator[turd stage] vaporisation of high pressure liquid to low pressure again ,this is in your cab blower, and after 3 mins cold air shud Emmit. . . .happy fault finding. . . .:) :) :)

What a complicated way of getting some cold air. All I have to do is push a button on the dashboard which makes a small orange light come up in that knob et voila.........:D :D :D :D :D :D :D
 
From the time I put my left hand selector completely to the left (only front dashboard blowers working) both my aircon and heating are giving me satisfaction. Up till that moment I used to have that selector on half down at the footwell and the other half via the dashboard blowers but did not have (or almost not) any aircon nor heating. Now it's everything allright. (Said this before but wasn't sure, Alzheimer you see.....:p :p :p )
