I see Nissan are about to launch a new X-Trail model, the T series, in
the next couple of weeks.

Anyone got any good/bad vibes about the X-Trail before I make a
commitment?

here it is

It follows reports of engines stalling and then failing to re-start. The
fault has been traced to defective sensors in the engine management system,
which will be replaced free of charge.

The recall - the largest in Nissan's 70-year history - includes more than
100,000 cars sold in the UK.

No accidents

Nissan said the recall would cost it 15bn-16bn yen ($139m-148m; £81m-87m).

It said there had been no reports of any accidents or injuries as a result
of the fault.

Thanks for that. I did read about it a few days ago. It gave me some
confidence in the product that they were prepared to cover vehicles
which were no longer in warranty.

I can't find any bad publicity on the X-Trail when I search the
Internet, unlike the Land Rover Freelander which I currently have.

You want a nice diesel Shogun really.

I've had my Nissan X-Trail 2.2 Diesel Sport for 7 months now - mileage
8,000.
For towing my caravan I reckon its better than my previous 99 Discovery TD5
XS with ACE, Self Levelling etc!

The X-Trail is:-
Quieter
More comfortable - suspension softer, smoother, less roll.
More economical - 40 mpg solo, about 28-30 mpg towing.
MUCH more reliable
MUCH cheaper to run
Faster accelerating/more sporty/more enjoyable to drive.
Has much more useful torque characteristics - max 199 lb/ft @ 2000 revs -
60mph in 6th gear.
More flexible at low revs.
The best tow car I've ever had!! - and that includes Passat, Disco, TD4
Freelander, Daihatsu 4Trak.

The X-Trail is not as:
big, high or cumbersome as the Discovery and it's probably not quite as
"macho" - but who cares when it's that good!!

I was looking at the Shogun Sport recently. I was rather put off!

Insurance group 16 for starters. Seemed to be a bit overpriced for
what it offered.

I've had my 2.2 diesel Sport-X for just three weeks now. Covered less than
900 miles so far. Got 38mpg on a long run, getting 31-32 mpg around town.
Don't tow so can't comment on that. Group 9 insurance, which is excellent
for a vehicle of this type. Very slight creaking from left side of the dash
which is annoying for a new car - hopefully the dealer will sort it out.
Love the look of the car and the space inside. Had to spend £30 on a
bootliner the other day - the boot is so vast and uncarpeted so anything put
in there was sliding around all over the place. There is also a cargo net
available but I will hold off on that. Thought about waiting for the
facelifted model but got a good discount on this one and I liked the Sport-X
spec.

the Mitsi 2.5 diesel is supposed to split headers like nobodies business.

worse than the GM 2.8 V6 petrol.

Agree with previous posters on X-Trails merits. Have had mine (2.2D
Sport) for about 18mths and have very few negative comments, the only
ones being that the upholstery on mine is not too kid-friendly (should
have gone for the leather) and the plastics in the boot tend to scuff
a bit easily.

I bought a boot liner when I got the car as the dog was likely to skid
around in it like Bambi on ice, and its an excellent purchase.

I tow a fair bit and its an excellent towcar and has good off-road
credentials (although I wouldn't take it anywhere extreme). I had to
tow a Landie 90 out of some gloop a few months back...........its that
good!

No. My New Holland 7810 is though. But it's a bugger to park at
Sainsbury's.

If you ever plan to bring it to an off-road driving day in the northern
half of Lincolnshire...

How do you define REAL 4wd?

The X-Trail's engine drives all four wheels if you want it to - even with a
locking centre diff. - if you want.

My mothers honda and Iseki both are real 4WDs. but since both are limited to
30Kmh even through they can go pretty much anywhere offroad, I don't think
I'll be using an ATV and a tractor for commuting to and from the 4x4 sites.
