hi, this looks like a really good group, plenty of help and advice and loads of banter. I have just bought my first landrover, a Freelander 2.0 xedi 1998 82000mls, met blue, its had a new cambelt fitted, a propshaft and a window regulator on the drivers side, seems like a really decent car

Why a Freelander?

40mpg?
Reliable as a reliable thing?
Comfortable road car and great fun offroad?

Plus - Freelanders get to do something that Tdi drivers dream of - overtake!

Good choice of motor, Bazzer. The L-series is bomb proof and yours is just run in. We've got a an XEDI and a TD4 and love both of them.

Cheers

hi,
thanks for the welcome people, we chose a Freelander because we have allways liked the look of them, a friend had one, and us as passengers were really impressed with the ride and the handling.
40mpg? really!, at weekend we were getting about 28mpg, around country lanes and the motorway, with the air-con on to give it a test, Its been well serviced, could be the way I'm driving it possibly? any tips?

Around 30-35 should be achieveable on a variety of roads with a L-series.

Air con will decrease it significantly. See what it is like without air con. If you are still not getting 30mph on steady runs, you might consider checking your tyres, your right foot (!) and then making sure that it's been well serviced.
